Daryl Morey celebrates Joel Embiid for signing extension with Sixers

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey celebrates Joel Embiid signing an extension with the team.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a major move on Tuesday when they locked up their superstar big man for the long haul. The Sixers agreed to a 4-year $196 million extension with MVP runner-up Joel Embiid that will keep him in Philadelphia through the 2026-27 season.

The deal provides the franchise with some clarity as they now know that Embiid will be here for a long time and they will be looking to build the right championship team around him. The big fella continues to take steps forward as an elite player in the league after averaging 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds in the 2020-21 season.

Team president Daryl Morey took to Twitter and posted a picture of Embiid putting pen to paper to celebrate the fact that his superstar cornerstone will be around for a long time.

Now that the Sixers know the star big man will be in for a while, they can focus on moving forward and building a championship team while the 27-year old is upright and playing at a dominant level. Who knows how long his prime will be considering the injuries he has sustained.
