Danny O’Neil fights through illness to shine at Elite 11 QB competition

Not many other prospects have the dedication that Colorado QB commit Danny O’Neil showed last week

It was not an easy week by any means for Colorado football commit Danny O’Neil.

In an interview with BuffStampede’s Jimmie Searfoss, the 2024 QB revealed that days before he was set to compete at the prestigious Elite 11 quarterback competition, he ran a fever that later became strep throat. O’Neil added that due to frequent vomiting, he suffered an inflamed esophagus that made it difficult to even eat, resulting in him losing “12 to 15 pounds.”

Despite the illness, O’Neil completed the trip from his home city of Indianapolis to Los Angeles where the camp was held from June 14-16.

“Me and my parents weren’t sure if I was going to be able to make it,” O’Neil told BuffStampede. “We were thinking about calling to get a replacement because we weren’t sure if I was going to be able to physically go through the three days. I told him that I’ve been dreaming and working for this for years and I don’t want this to be my downfall.”

O’Neil gutted through the pain and completed an impressive 16-of-20 passes during the Pro Day events on day two.
