The Philadelphia 76ers made moves in the offseason to bring in better fits around their star duo of Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid in order to smoothly run the offense. Guys like Seth Curry and Danny Green have done a good job of making sure they have the proper spacing on that end of the floor.
However, the Sixers are currently 28th in the league in 3-point attempts at 29.1. Only the New York Knicks and the Cleveland Cavaliers take fewer 3-pointers than Philadelphia.
When the team has shooters like Curry and Green and even Tobias Harris, they have to find ways to get them open looks from deep.
“I think the game today is about getting those perimeter shots, we don’t have to drastically change that,” said Green. “I do think a lot of it changes when we move the ball. Our attempts behind the perimeter are the result of our ball movement or lack thereof. We don’t get a lot of attempts behind 3s because we’re moving it too slow or a second too slow or we’re not moving it at all.”
The Sixers are sitting at the top of the East due to the play of Embiid as they have continued to find ways to put him in spots for him to be effective. He is squarely in the MVP conversations, but Philadelphia could use more attempts from deep in order to give him even more space on the floor.
“Early in the season, we had times where we were rolling and getting some attempts off,” Green continued. “I do think that has to change a little bit, I won’t say drastically, but we do a good job of feeding and working off of Joel. We got to find ways to operate around him and also get it out and get faster swing movement to where we get some better looks from the perimeter.”
The Sixers will be facing the Utah Jazz on Monday to finish up the 4-game road trip.
