Danny Green excited to have George Hill join Sixers after trade addition

Philadelphia 76ers veteran Danny Green is excited to have George Hill join the team.

The Philadelphia 76ers pulled the trigger on a trade on Thursday before the deadline when they acquired George Hill from the Oklahoma City Thunder. It was a deal aimed to help the Sixers on both ends of the floor. He can run the offense while also being a solid defender.

Hill will join a team with title hopes and a good friend, Sixers veteran Danny Green, who is ready to have him help the team’s chances.

“It’s amazing,” said Green. “My first year in San Antonio, he was there right before we got Kawhi (Leonard), I had not even half a season with George, but I got to know him. I’m still very close with him and his friends and family in San Antonio. He’s still based in Texas; he has a lot of his family there. I see him all the time every summer. I work out with him here and there.”

Green was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Thunder before being flipped to the Sixers on draft night. Green and Hill wanted to play together in Oklahoma City. Now they will do so in Philadelphia.

(function (d, s, n) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
js = d.createElement(s);
js.className = n;
js.src = “//player.ex.co/player/d8b9c085-4226-44f1-8495-36ad4e2aa62d”;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘exco-player’));

“Before I got to Philly, I guess the OKC thing happened, and I seen him this summer in San Antonio before we came to Philly, and we’re talking about it,” Green said with a smile. “He was just like ‘I might be on the move again this might happen. I might end up in Philly’ and I was like ‘Yeah, we’ll take you. Let’s make it happen. If I need to make a call, I’ll tell him we can bring you over there.’”

The Sixers need a guy like Hill to come off their bench and run things. As good as Shake Milton and Tyrese Maxey are as young players, they are looking to score more than run an offense. Hill can shoot, he has a ton of veteran experience and he will play at a high level on the other end of the floor.

Green is a guy who can vouch for him.

“It only took about four months for it to happen, but he’s here now,” Green finished. “He’s a hell of a player, even better person, he can shoot the ball, we need another point guard. Another guy that can run the team, play his role well, and is a selfless player. He’s gonna fit right in. I think he’s gonna do great for us and give us another veteran leadership type of guard, and a floor spacer.”
