As hard as it might be for some fans of the Boston Celtics to believe, Utah Jazz team president Danny Ainge, the former Celtics president of basketball operations, gained his first taste of the storied rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Celtics as a fan of the former.
Ainge grew up on the West Coast and followed the careers of Laker greats Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy and Michael Cooper. A young Ainge found himself injected into that rivalry soon after — and on the opposite side from which he had been rooting, at that.
Speaking in an interview with the Players Tribune “Knuckleheads” podcast, Ainge waxed nostalgic about the great rivalry between the two clubs, his role in that rivalry and plenty more.
