D’Angelo Russell’s new Lakers contract will not have a no-trade clause, which will give the team more flexibility.

A big part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ successful offseason is the agreement they came to with D’Angelo Russell on a new contract.

The 27-year-old guard, who was acquired in the big Russell Westbrook trade in February, signed a two-year deal reportedly worth $37 million to stay in the Purple and Gold.

Keeping him is a big deal: He averaged 17.4 points and 6.1 assists a game on 48.4% overall shooting and 41.4% from 3-point range in 17 regular-season contests with Los Angeles after the trade. Even though he struggled at times in the playoffs, he is a major part of the team’s offensive attack and ability to keep LeBron James’ workload manageable.

At first, it appeared Russell’s new deal included a no-trade clause. But he reportedly waived that clause.

This would allow the Lakers to trade him this coming season, if they wish to do so. Right now, such a move may seem unlikely, but a great deal can happen between July and February.
