One of Brazil’s top regional fighters has signed to fight on Season 4 of Dana White’s Contender Series this summer.
At Dana White’s Contender Series 29, [autotag]Jose Augusto Azevedo[/autotag] will make his North American debut. The event will serve as the third episode of the season, currently scheduled for July 7 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. As with all Season 4 events, DWCS 29 streams on ESPN+.
A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the signing to MMA Junkie following a social media post from Azevedo (6-2) in early March.
No opponent has been announced or revealed for Azevedo at this time. Usually a heavyweight competitor, the 27-year-old will making the move down to 205 pounds for this fight.
A protege of Bellator’s “Pitbull” brothers, Patricio and Patricky Freire, Azevedo enters DWCS on a four-fight winning streak. A professional fighter since 2012, Azevedo started fighting on a more consistent basis after switching teams.
Since moving shop to Pitbull Brothers MMA in September 2018, Azevedo has yet to lose. He’s gone 4-0, fighting most recently for local promotion Centro Oeste.
Azevedo joins a handful of other fighters revealed for season 4 including LFA flyweight champ Brandon Royval, former UFC fighter Dustin Jacoby, and flashy rising bantamweight striker Mana Martinez.
