Viva Las Vegas, the Raiders are coming home. After starting 2020 on the road in Carolina against the Panthers, the Raiders play their first game at Allegiant Stadium on Monday Night Football in Week 2. The New Orleans Saints come to town in a meeting between two 1-0 teams.
It’s not the fanciest pick for the Raiders, but after pounding the rock with Josh Jacobs last week, they could look to shift their focus to tight end Darren Waller. In terms of fantasy football, he’s a safe bet.
In their season opener, the Saints topped the Tom Brady-led Bucs, who has a ton of playmakers. Their tight ends found cracks in that Saints defense though, notching six catches and a touchdown. Combine that with the Raiders and Waller.
To start the season, Raiders QB Derek Carr did spread the ball around, but he leaned on Waller. His six catches and eight targets both led Las Vegas.
Of Waller’s six grabs, he did only amass 45 yards, and his long catch was only eight yards. It’s easy to envision Waller having at least one bigger reception in Week 2. In 12 of 16 games in 2019, Waller had a double-digit yards per catch total. The law of averages points to more yards heading Waller’s way.
Plus, we’re talking about the Saints. When Drew Brees comes to town, even potentially without receiver Michael Thomas, a shootout could be en route.
With an average of $5,555 salary per position when starting your DraftKings lineup, Waller’s $5,400 Week 2 cost keeps you right on par.
