Dabo Swinney updates Clemson’s starting center situation, likes what he sees from Linthicum

Swinney likes what he’s seen from the Tigers’ center.

Clemson is sticking with the centers they have after spring practice.
Ryan Linthicum, Harris Sewell, and Trent Howard competed to replace All-ACC center Will Putnam, with Linthicum emerging as the starter. Clemson hasn’t released an official depth chart yet, but Linthicum has maintained his position heading into fall camp.

“We considered adding someone in January, but after spring, we felt confident, especially with Matt [Luke] working with them,” Swinney explained.

Linthicum, now a redshirt junior, has excelled in his role. Swinney praised his intelligence and conditioning, noting that he’s in the best shape since joining Clemson. Weighing 302 pounds, Linthicum is at his lightest since arriving in 2021.

Swinney also highlighted Sewell’s improvement and Howard’s consistency, adding, “We feel good about the group. They’ve been very consistent.”

Clemson will begin preparing for Georgia, with their season opener set for August 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
