In Saturday’s availability report prior to kickoff between No. 10 Clemson and Wake Forest, the biggest name missing from the Tigers’ active roster was that of five-star freshman receiver Bryant Wesco.
Wesco did not travel with the team to Winston-Salem for the game, and one of the first questions coach Dabo Swinney received in his postgame press conference was about Wesco’s availability.
“In the game last week, he rolled it,” Swinney said, referring to an ankle injury suffered against Florida State in Week 6. “I think it was on that two-minute drive where he tried to run to the sideline instead of just getting up the field. I believe it was on that play. He played the whole game. He finished, but he was pretty sore the next day.”
Clemson didn’t need Wesco in its 49-14 blowout win over Wake Forest, but the Tigers hope the freshman sensation will be back in time for next week’s home game against the 4-2 Virginia Cavaliers.
Wesco has 11 catches for 262 yards and two touchdowns in five games this season as a true freshman (Midlothian, Texas).
Kickoff for Week 8’s game against Virginia is scheduled for noon ET. The game will be televised on ACC Network.
