Softball season is rapidly approaching and the Auburn Tigers have one of the best players in the country in ace [autotag]Maddie Penta[/autotag]. The senior was ranked as the ninth-best player by D1Softball on Thursday.
The righty is coming off a sensational junior season where she went 27-7 and had a 1.33 ERA. Her 27 wins tied the program record and her ERA was the second-lowest in program history.
Penta was the first Auburn player to be named the SEC Pitcher of the Year in program history and made several All-American teams. The Chesapeake City, Maryland native became just the second Tiger to ever strike out over 300 batters in a season with 303. She threw 17 complete games, including a no-hitter against South Carolina.
Penta and the rest of the Tigers will open the season against Virginia Tech on Feb. 9 in the Tiger Invitational.
