After upsetting the LSU Tigers in Las Vegas to open the season, the No. 5 Colorado women’s basketball team will play its first true road game on Saturday against the SMU Mustangs.
Both teams sport matching 3-0 records but have taken different paths to get there. SMU has taken care of business against teams that it should beat — UC Riverside, Alabama State and Nicholls — by an average of 29 points. The Mustangs are led by senior guard Tiara Young, who is averaging 20.3 points per game.
CU head coach JR Payne has built a talented roster from top to bottom that has risen up the rankings with an impressive start to the year. The three-headed monster of Aaronette Vonleh, Frida Formann and Jaylyn Sherrod have the Buffs at No. 5 in the AP poll.
Tipoff at Moody Coliseum in Dallas is set for 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
