CU women’s basketball moves up three spots in New Year’s Day AP Poll

Following a huge win over Utah, Colorado moved up three spots in the AP Poll

As Jaylyn Sherrod said on Saturday, Colorado recognizes it’s no longer sneaking up on opposing teams. Respect has been given to the Buffs, who improved to 11-1 after beating Utah over the weekend.

In Monday’s New Year’s Day edition of the AP Top 25 Women’s College Basketball Poll, Colorado advanced three spots to No. 5, the Buffs’ highest ranking since sitting No. 3 in the Nov. 20 poll.

Teams currently ranked ahead of Colorado include No. 4 Iowa, No. 3 North Carolina State, No. 2 UCLA and No. 1 South Carolina. The Buffs will see those second-ranked Bruins in Boulder on Jan. 19.

Following the first weekend of conference play, the Pac-12 had three other top-15 teams: No. 8 Stanford, No. 9 USC and No. 15 Utah. Colorado will host both the Cardinal and the Trojans later this month.

But first, head coach JR Payne’s Buffs are set to face Arizona on Friday in Tucson (6 p.m. MT, Pac-12 Network).
