There aren’t many winnable games on Colorado’s schedule. TCU, unfortunately, was one of them. After keeping things close entering halftime, the Buffaloes lost control in a major way to drop their first nonconference affair, 38-13.
With Air Force and Minnesota now up next, things could get even more dreadful quickly for CU.
The Buffs aren’t alone in making their fans feel miserable, though. USA TODAY Sports writer Dan Wolken released his misery index after Week 1 games and Colorado was in the “miserable, but not miserable enough category,” along with Charlotte and Navy.
Wolken’s top team in misery was Nebraska, which played poorly against North Dakota. He also had Oregon, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Appalachian State right behind the Huskers in honor of their Week 1 struggles.
Here’s what Wolken wrote on the Buffs:
If a time machine took you back to the early 1990s and placed you in the middle of Boulder, Colorado, fans would accuse you of being on illegal substances if you told them they would experience just one winning football season between 2006 and 2021 (not counting the COVID year of 2020 when the Buffaloes finished 4-2). But that’s the reality for Colorado, and a season-opening 38-13 loss to TCU does not raise hopes that third-year coach Karl Dorrell is going to be the guy to reverse that streak.
