CU Buffs blown out by Arizona State despite Trevor Baskin’s big performance

Trevor Baskin was the lone bright spot in Colorado’s blowout loss at Arizona State

Little went right for Colorado men’s basketball in its first true road game of the season.

Matched up with Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe, the Buffs trailed by as many as 25 points on Saturday afternoon in an 81-61 loss. Colorado shot under 35% from the field while allowing ASU to hit 51.9% of its shots, including 13 makes from deep.

Despite the lopsided final, Colorado forward Trevor Baskin led all scorers with 23 points off the bench, marking a new season-high. The Colorado Mesa transfer went 9-for-14 from the field and pulled in 10 rebounds to secure his second double-double of the season.

No other Buff reached double-figures, with forward Andrej Jakimovski adding nine points and center Elijah Malone scoring eight. Guard Julian Hammond III, who entered Saturday as Colorado’s leading point-getter, was held scoreless from the field.

Arizona State was led by BJ Freeman and Basheer Jihad, who combined for 37 points.

Colorado dropped to 9-4 (0-2 Big 12) while the Sun Devils improved to 10-3 (1-1 Big 12).

Up next, head coach Tad Boyle and the Buffs will face the UCF Knights on Wednesday in Orlando (5 p.m. MT on ESPN+).
