Cristiano Ronaldo looking at Manchester United exit

If you’re in the Champions League, Man Utd might have a player for you

Multiple reports say that Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Manchester United that if the right bid comes in for him, they should accept it.

The Times is reporting that Ronaldo, 37, wants to ensure that the final seasons of his career are spent playing in the Champions League, while The Athletic says new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has already had a meeting with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes to discuss a possible transfer, and that Napoli is interested in bringing him back to Serie A.

That report also says that Bayern Munich have been told that Portugal’s all-time leading goalscorer is looking for an exit.

Man Utd do have a place in Europe, as they qualified for the Europa League, but despite a lengthy career, Ronaldo has never played in UEFA’s second-tier tournament, and based on today’s news does not seem to want to start this coming year.

The Red Devils finished sixth this past season, missing the Champions League places by 13 points. Ronaldo returned to the club after spending the previous 12 seasons with Real Madrid and Juventus, but though he scored 24 goals in all competitions, the reunion has not been particularly fruitful, as Manchester City and Liverpool have moved out as a class by themselves in terms of contending for silverware.

The club is in the midst of a major change, with Erik ten Hag being hired as their new manager and transfer rumors pointing to some significant changes to the roster. Ten Hag has said he wants to keep Ronaldo at the club, even as there have been criticisms of how a perceived lack of defensive contribution has meant his goalscoring record comes with a cost.
