The Alabama Crimson Tide got back on track last week by downing South Carolina on the road and setting a school record in points scored against SEC competition when they downed the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. Because of those amazing feats, the Crimson Tide moved up to No. 9 in the latest Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports, released Monday.
The Crimson Tide (17-5, 12-1 SEC) rebounded on Tuesday after suffering their first conference loss of the season last Saturday by defeating South Carolina, 81-78.
The Gamecocks jumped on Alabama early, leading by as much as 11 points within the game’s first five minutes. The Crimson Tide stormed back to make the game a neck-in-neck affair before taking a three-point lead into halftime. The game would stay close in the second half. Despite Bama controlling the lead the entire 20 minutes, they never led by more than eight points.
John Petty led the Tide in scoring against the Gamecocks with 20. He also added eight rebounds to his total.
The Crimson Tide returned home to face the Georgia Bulldogs and wasted no time getting comfortable. Alabama nailed 18 three-pointers, including 11 in the first half, to down the Bulldogs 115-82. The record-setting game saw Alabama score the most points in an SEC game and the second-most points in school history.
Herb Jones was the star of the game, making seven-of-nine field goals en route to a 21-point, five-rebound day.
Alabama is back this week with two SEC bottom dwellers in Texas A&M on Wednesday, and Vanderbilt on Saturday.
