In a new year of college football with a new head coach, it’s still the same Alabama Crimson Tide. Many thought that Nick Saban’s retirement would mark the end of the Tide’s stranglehold on college football, but rather, he passed the power to DeBoer.
Saban looked on without a smile as the Crimson Tide rushed out to an early 28-0 lead in the first half. The Bulldogs were able to climb back in the game and take the lead, but Ryan Williams made one of the most remarkable plays we will see all season to give Alabama a lead and in turn the win. But ultimately, DeBoer picks up his first SEC win over Georgia while Kirby Smart now falls to 1-6 against Alabama. Georgia as a team is now 45-3 since the start of the 2021 season, with all three losses remarkably coming to the Tide.
The Week 6 AP Poll didn’t punish Georgia much for the loss as they only fell three sports to No. 5, but more importantly, the Crimson Tide are now the No. 1 team in the country. The SEC currently boasts five of the top ten teams in the country with the Big Ten not far behind having four.
Alabama still faces a number of challenging games in the regular season, but with a 4-0 record and their toughest test out of the way, a path to the Playoff is becoming quite clear. The Tide will be in Nashville next weekend for a showdown with a much improved Vanderbilt side.
