Jak Crawford says he would have to consider a potential race seat opportunity with Cadillac’s future Formula 1 team, if an opening doesn’t appear at Aston Martin.
Cadillac is set to join the grid in 2026 once it gains its full entry from the FIA, and a previous Andretti-led iteration of the team targeted at least one American driver in its line-up. Crawford is a reserve driver for Aston Martin and made his first official test appearance at the Abu Dhabi post-season test last week, but says if General Motors continues the same approach to drivers then he’d be open to a switch.

“Obviously at the moment I’m with Aston Martin and the plan is to be with them and learn and develop,” Crawford said. “Of course if any race seat came up I would love to have one. Honestly, it’s my dream, so in any scenario like that then I would of course have to consider (it).”
Crawford’s hopes of being on the grid are boosted by his position as the highest-ranked American driver racing in Formula 2 at the moment, although he acknowledges the potential for IndyCar drivers to make a switch.
“I’m doing F2 next year; there aren’t many Americans on the F2, F3 [ladder],” he said. “I mean there’s some IndyCar guys, so I guess on that side you could say I’m definitely the top American at the moment, on the European side.”
Fresh from his run in Abu Dhabi, Crawford also said he has faith that he can perform in F1 if given the chance, partly based on his initial outings but also the performances of many other F2 drivers who have made the step up.
“I feel very comfortable in the car,” he said. “You never really know how you’re going to stack up or compare in your first official session, and I feel like I performed well, and it definitely gives me confidence that I can compete. Especially since a lot of my rivals this year in Formula 2 are moving up and already doing well in Formula 1.”
