Cowboys WR Ventell Bryant arrested on DUI charge in Florida

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Ventell Bryant arrested for driving under the influence in Tampa on Wednesday.

There’s a Dallas Cowboys wide receiver making headlines, but unfortunately it’s for the wrong reasons. 23-year-old Ventell Bryant was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday morning. The incident took place in his hometown of Tampa, Florida when he was pulled over for driving without his headlights.

With a new coaching staff in town, any lapse in judgment is the kind of thing that a player on the roster bubble simply can’t afford to make.

From The Athletic’s Greg Auman:

The arresting officer noted that Bryant was slow to stop, and after being stopped, “exhibited several clues of impairment, to include bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath.” The arrest report says he “admitted to consuming several margaritas” before submitting to a breath test, which eventually showed a blood-alcohol level of .102 and .099…

Bryant played in 12 games for the Cowboys in 2019, and was primarily used on special teams, appearing in 45% of those snaps. He did catch one pass for a touchdown in the Thanksgiving day loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Bryant is under contract for the 2020 season, but does not have any guaranteed money in his deal, meaning a release would result in no dead money on the Dallas cap.
