A once impressive season turned into a nightmare for Indianapolis when the Colts came out flat down the stretch, including an embarrassing performance against the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars, losing their spot in the playoffs in the process. The root cause, the incompetence of their quarterback, Carson Wentz, who was in his first year with the club after a mammoth trade brought him in from Philadelphia. Turns out Indy was done with Wentz after the collapse and traded him to the Washington Commanders Wednesday.
Who could be more excited than Cowboys CB Trevons Diggs to have the quarterback he intercepted twice in one game back in the division? He took to social media to give a cryptic but obvious tweet about Wentz’ return.

In Week 8 of Diggs’ rookie year, he foreshadowed his All-Pro sophomore season, terrorizing Wentz, with an end zone pick and another over the shoulder snag. The picks gave Dallas a sliver of hope as their own QB that day was seventh-round, overmatched rookie Ben DiNucci.

While that game ended in a loss for the Cowboys, Diggs set the tone for the reputation he would develop as a ballhawk and nightmare for opposing QBs. Wentz ended up being traded out of the conference at the end of the season, to the Colts, and put together a statistically solid season with 27 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. But things went south in clutch moments and down the stretch and the Colts have washed their hands of him, now sending him back to the NFC East.
Wentz will be scheduled to face Diggs twice in 2022 and this time, Diggs will hopefully have Dak Prescott and company to capitalize on the opportunities he creates.
