One never knows where a gem can be found, but one thing for sure, they will be discovered. One of the world’s best rugby players has decided to forego his stardom there and will try to forge a path to playing in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys have one of the league’s longest history of finding players in unconventional places, dating all the way back to Gil Brandt’s days as the engineer of the club’s early Super Bowl champions.
Recently, they’ve found former soccer player Brandon Aubrey who became an All-Pro kicker in his first season in the NFL. Could they be the team that takes a chance on rugby star Louis Rees-Zammit as he enters the NFL’s international player pathway program?
The 22-year old from Wales was seen as a rising star in that sport, but instead will join the NFL’s 10-week program to see if he has a place in the league. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing around 200 pounds, he’s built along the lines of the Cowboys star receiver CeeDee Lamb. Whether or not he has the talent to be more than a novelty at American football remains to be seen.
If he shows anything, NFL clubs will be able to select him in April’s amateur draft.
