Just when you think it’s the slow period (it is, we’re pretending) comes another exciting hire for the Dallas Cowboys’ front office. Okay, exciting may be overdoing it; casual fans aren’t going to care much, but the die hard fans — especially those who embrace analytics — continue to be rewarded for staying tuned in.
When the Cowboys hired Mike McCarthy as head coach, it seems that he was not exactly forthright with the narrative he hunkered down and converted into an analytical machine in his time between gigs. But this offseason the Cowboys have looked to rectify whatever perceived shortcomings they had in the data department. Dallas has hired not one, not two, but three data scientists in the last month or so, the latest being William Britt as first reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Jori Epstein.
So far this summer, Cowboys have hired director of strategic football operations John Park from Colts, strategic football analyst Sarah Mallepalle from Ravens and now strategic football analyst William Britt from Steelers. Will be interesting how each team perspective contributes
