Cowboys’ first opening-drive TD since Week 7, sets things off vs Bills

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten caps off an opening drive touchdown with an eight yard reception.

The slow starts that have plagued the Dallas Cowboys have stopped for at least one game. For the first time all season, Dallas took possession in their own territory on an opening drive and turned it into seven points.

After the Buffalo Bills deferred on the coin toss the Cowboys took the ball and marched 75 yards down field for just their second opening drive touchdown of the season, capped off by an eight-yard pass to future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was sharp on the drive, completing all four of his passes for 51 yards and wide receiver Amari Cooper, who was held without a catch last week against the New England Patriots, was targeted three different times (the incompletion nullified by a defensive penalty) hauling in two.

It was Witten’s third touchdown of the season and his first since Week 2. It’s his 71st touchdown of his career, trailing Dez Bryant’s franchise leading 73 by only two.
