Dan Quinn is staying in Dallas.
The Cowboys defensive coordinator, thought to be a leading candidate for head coaching opportunities in Denver, Arizona, and Indianapolis, has reportedly committed to remaining on Mike McCarthy’s staff for the 2023 season.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero first broke the news Thursday afternoon.
The news comes amid a good deal of turnover on the Cowboys coaching staff. The team parted ways with six assistant coaches the day prior, including several who served on the defensive side under Quinn.
Senior defensive assistant George Edwards and assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett were among the casualties, leading to some speculation that even more change was coming at the coordinator spot.
But Quinn has reportedly told the Cowboys he will return for a third season of unfinished business with the unit that he has turned into one of the best in the league.

“We’re all extremely excited to have Dan back,” McCarthy said, per ESPN’s Todd Archer. “This is big for us. Gives us continuity. Definitely what we’ve accomplished the last two years, building off that. Frankly, on a personal note, I can’t tell you how grateful I am.”
After a remarkable turnaround last year, Quinn was one of the hottest names on the 2022 coaching-interview circuit and was believed by many to be the frontrunner for the Denver job, as well as possibly others.
But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones convinced Quinn to stay. And despite heavy interest from other clubs for the second year in a row, he’s decided to stay once again in 2023.
