Cowboys’ Dak Prescott has 3rd-highest MVP odds for 2020 season

Veags odds makers list Cowboys QB Dak Prescott as a top MVP favorite.

Now that free agency and the NFL draft have passed, opinions of how each team’s season will unfold now have two firm legs to stand on. It’s still all projection, but at least with knowing how each roster will fundamentally sit, projections make more sense about how a team should fare.

As such, MVP odds seem more intuitive, as the rosters and supporting casts around the top quarterbacks are now known. And let’s face it, the MVP is now a QB-only award. For the Dallas Cowboys, they seem to be ready to present a juggernaut under the guidance of quarterback Dak Prescott, who has the third-highest MVP odds according to Ceasar’s Sportsbook.

BetMGM lists Prescott as tied for the fifth-best MVP odds at +2000.

Prescott is coming off of the best season of his young career. After failing to throw more than 23 touchdowns in his first three seasons, he bumped that number up to 30 in 2019. His 4,902 passing yards were good for second in the NFL to Jameis Winston and he finished one yard shy of tying Tony Romo’s franchise record.

Prescott also did a good job spreading the wealth as Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup both went over 1,100 yards. When factoring in Randall Cobb and Jason Witten, he had four pass catchers that finished with over 500 yards receiving (all had at least 55 receptions).

In 2020, Prescott will have the best supporting cast of his career as first-round sensation CeeDee Lamb joins Cooper and Gallup to form the most promising trio of receivers in the NFL.

Of course, these odds would imply that Prescott is around for training camp and the offseason, which at this point isn’t guaranteed. Prescott has yet to sign the team’s franchise tag tender, and isn’t under contract as the two sides work towards a long-term agreement. The organization wants five years to avoid shelling out more money when the cap explodes. Prescott wants to be able to cash in on the coming TV deal  by having a shorter agreement.
