Cowboys block Bengals punt, find way to lose game

The Bengals escaped with a win when it seemed a loss was possible

The Cincinnati Bengals seemed to create ways to lose football games in 2024. It is only fitting they benefited from one of the most unusual breaks to win one on Monday.

The Bengals had a punt blocked by the Dallas Cowboys late in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 20. The ball went forward and a Dallas player touched it but didn’t control the football.

Cincinnati recovered and three plays later Joe Burrow found Ja’Marr Chase for a 40-yard touchdown that gave the Bengals a 27-20 victory over the Cowboys.

Here is how the play-by-play described the punt that happened on a fourth-and-27.  Yes, the Bengals had their punt blocked on a fourth-and-27 and somehow wound up with a first-and-10.

Amari Oruwariye, who had just been activated to the roster, was distraught heading to the locker room after the loss.

Burrow threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns. Chase had 14 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

For Dallas, Rico Dowd;e had 131 rushing yards and CeeDee Lamb had 93 receiving yards and a TD.
