COVID-19 robbed Duke of a chance to salvage its miserable season

The season is probably over for Duke.

After one of the most uneven seasons ever for Duke under legendary men’s basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski — the Blue Devils went 11-11 in the regular season with losses to Pitt, Louisville (twice), Miami, and North Carolina (twice) — it looked like there was maybe a chance that the team could make a run in the ACC tournament and grab a spot.

The Blue Devils beat Boston College and Louisville in the ACC tournament and were set to face Florida State in the quarterfinals on Thursday night … but per USA TODAY Sports and other reports, a positive COVID-19 case on the team means they’re pulling out of the tournament.

Selection Sunday is coming up but it sounds like the Blue Devils will be on the outside looking in. It’s an awful way for this season to end, and a reminder that it could happen to a team that ends up in Indiana soon.
