COVID-19 outbreak at LSU leads to postponement of Alabama-LSU game this weekend

As feared, this weekend’s game between LSU and Alabama has been postponed following a COVID-19 outbreak within the LSU football program.

LSU’s game this weekend against Alabama has been postponed, according to multiple reports on Tuesday afternoon. The postponement comes following an outbreak of COVID-19 within the LSU football program.

It was previously reported LSU’s outbreak could be traced back to a Halloween party. Contract tracing dwindled LSU’s available roster near the threshold mandated by the SEC before a game could be impacted on the schedule.

This is the second game postponed on LSU’s schedule this year due to a COVID-19-related situation. A game earlier this season against the Florida Gators has been rescheduled for Dec. 12. That game was rescheduled to the week before the SEC Championship Game due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the Florida program.

When the game with Alabama can be rescheduled could be tricky to figure out. Both LSU and Alabama were on a bye week this past weekend, and there are no current scheduling vacancies remaining this regular season before the SEC Championship Game. It appears as though Alabama will likely be playing in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 19.

Adding to the ongoing scheduling complications in the SEC is another game this weekend being scratched from the weekend slate. Texas A&M’s game at Tennessee has also reportedly been postponed.

LSU is scheduled to face Texas A&M on Nov. 28.

As noted by Brandon Marcello of 247Sports, a third SEC game has been postponed as well. Auburn’s game at Mississippi State was rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12.

LSU’s next scheduled game, as of now, is Nov. 21 at Arkansas.
