After weeks of no positive COVID-19 tests for head coach Lincoln Riley and Oklahoma, a quick burst of the virus throughout the team nearly left the head coach without an entire position group in practice.
For weeks the Sooners weekly updates yielded no bad results, but in Tuesday’s Zoom conference, Riley said it had hit them hard.
“We lose all but one person at a position group, a major position group on the field, and we have to practice that day with a position where we had multiple players on the field at one time and we had one player there.”
Riley didn’t mention what position group had the positive tests. The team’s most recent tests revealed 17 active cases among the players. Riley said on Tuesday that “eight or nine” players were in quarantine, and that the team’s numbers are now ‘definitely” under 10.
Oklahoma is currently still schedule to take on Missouri State on Sept. 12 for their season opener.
