The Denver Broncos have 13 wide receivers on the 90-man offseason roster and less than half of them will make the final roster. During a Zoom conference call with reporters on May 14, Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton talked about the looming competition for spots this summer.
“There’s going to be a lot of competition in our room, a lot,” Sutton said. “Everyone in our room understands that. They understand that that’s just what the NFL is. It’s competition. Competition brings out the best in everyone. That’s something we all know as being athletes, being competitors.”
Sutton and rookies Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler are locks to make the 53-man roster. Beyond them, there are three spots up for grabs.
“Every year there’s going to be a new group of guys that are coming in to take your spot,” Sutton said. “It’s what are you doing to get yourself ready to be able to perform your best every day, practice, meetings? What are you doing to put yourself into a position to be successful?
“I know every dude in that receiver room is studying their butt off to be able to know what they’re supposed to do so that they can go out there and prove why they should be on the field.”
Denver carried six receivers on its initial 53-man roster last year. Some of the young WRs that don’t make the active roster will be eligible for the practice squad. The Broncos will likely carry at least one WR on the PS.
