Looking to clear salary cap space ahead of the start of NFL free agency, the Denver Broncos were busy with a flurry of roster moves this week.
First, the Broncos announced they plan to release quarterback Russell Wilson. That move will create a huge “dead money” cap hit for Denver, leading to a series of consequences across the roster.
The Broncos have already restructured the contracts of two players and they have released two players — including star safety Justin Simmons — and agreed to trade wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. After a flurry of transactions, Denver went from being about $14 million over the cap to now being about $30 million under the cap.
To get there, the Broncos had to make some tough business decisions. Denver receiver Courtland Sutton had a perfect reaction on Saturday, sharing the famous GIF of Wil Smith standing in an empty house in the final scene of “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.”
