Could USC’s former 5-star WR Bru McCoy be a target for Oregon Ducks in transfer portal?

The former 5-star WR from USC has entered the transfer portal, and it could make sense for the Oregon Ducks to reach out.

One of the more talented players on the USC Trojans roster has entered the transfer portal, with wide receiver Bru McCoy announcing his decision to look for a new home on Thursday afternoon.

This should be an interesting player to note for fans of the Oregon Ducks, since the team is currently looking for more depth at the WR position, and McCoy once considered coming to Eugene out of high school.

Though his college stats don’t show the high ceiling that many think McCoy has, his career accolades certainly offer promise. As a star receiver and linebacker at Mater Dei High School, McCoy was eventually named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and also won the U.S. Army Player of the Year Award.

McCoy committed to the Trojans as the No. 9 player in the 2019 recruiting class, but wouldn’t make his college debut until the 2020 season where he caught 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns.

McCoy missed the 2021 season after being suspended for a domestic violence issue, though all charges were eventually dropped.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said on Thursday his top priority at the moment is recruiting his own players and keeping them around for the future. However, extending a line of communication to McCoy could pay huge dividends for the Ducks in the future.
