There is a good amount of unknown variables with the new College Football Playoff format, and one of Notre Dame football’s biggest rivals, USC, could make a run at a spot.
The question around the nations is how many losses eliminates a team, and Ryan Abraham believes that the Trojans could lose against LSU, Michigan and the Irish, and make the 12-team field.
It’s hard to agree with his assessment, as this scenario has USC with just one win over a top-25 opponent, Penn State. That wouldn’t be the best resume, and with three losses, they’re most likely not playing for a Big Ten Championship.
“USC at LSU, at Michigan. Notre Dame at the Coliseum. They could lose those three games and win the rest and still make the college football playoff." – @insidetroy 🏈🗣️

The Trojans could sneak in with one of the last spots, but it’s really hard to say how this will all play out. The first run of new rule changes to the playoff will set the tone for years to come. Hopefully, the Irish to their part and knock off USC in Los Angeles on November 30th.
