Could the Celtics hope to move into the 1st round of the ’22 draft? One analyst has heard rumbles they might

Word is they reportedly have their eye on a forward out of LSU.

Could the Boston Celtics hope to make an aggressive move into the first round of the 2022 NBA draft? According to The Athletic’s Zach Harper, it could be in the works. Per Harper’s sources, “the Celtics are high on him and could be looking to move into the first round to grab Eason by dangling a young role player like Payton Pritchard or Aaron Nesmith.”

As noted by the Athletic analyst, Eason is projected to go relatively soon after the lottery, and will take some time to round into a player that would be useful to a ball club with designs on contention. This makes such a move a bit of a head-scratcher given the fact that Eason is himself is seen as a bit of a gamble as a prospect at present.

The rumor may start to make more sense if further relevant details percolate to the surface in the time remaining before the draft on Thursday night, but for now is an interesting wrinkle for Celtics fans to keep tabs on.
