Are the Washington Redskins planning something major at wideout?
Two notable names have popped up around the Redskins this offseason — Dallas Cowboys wideout Amari Cooper and Minnesota Vikings wideout Stefon Diggs.
Now there’s a little more speculation for the smoke courtesy of Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer:
“Whoever the quarterback is, I’d expect the Redskins to look hard at the receiver market. Amari Cooper is one player to watch. DC area native Stefon Diggs could be another, if the Vikings ever show a desire to deal him (they really haven’t to this point).”
Not hard to see why this might be coming up.
One report said Redskins players were recruiting Cooper, a free agent. And Dwayne Haskins — of all people — has openly required Diggs.
Diggs isn’t a free agent but might eventually become available and if Dallas is preoccupied extending other players, Cooper could always slip away.
But either move would be ridiculously costly for the Redskins. And while beefing up the wideout core seems fun, Terry McLaurin is already a surefire No. 1 — the Redskins could easily go the cost-effective route and merely get complementary pieces around him.
Either way, don’t discredit these ideas entirely given Washington’s like for making major splashes.
