After making the full-time switch to tight end, Darren Waller has been one of the most productive players at his position since 2019. He has now posted back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons and is poised to do it again in 2021.
But is there a chance that he could be even better this season and put up bigger and better numbers than Travis Kelce? It’s not impossible, especially when you consider that he totaled 765 yards and five touchdowns in the final seven games of last season. If he could maintain that pace for a 17-game schedule, he would have a chance to break every receiving record for a tight end.
In a recent article by Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, he wrote about why Waller will be one of the most important players in your fantasy leagues. Here is a quick snippet of what he had to say about the Pro Bowl tight end:
“Last season, Darren Waller became the Las Vegas Raiders’ franchise leader in receptions (107) for a single campaign. He also posted career highs in receiving yards (1,196) and touchdowns (nine).
He’s racked up 1,100-plus receiving yards in back-to-back seasons. Clearly, he has a strong rapport with quarterback Derek Carr, and that connection should continue to serve as a fantasy gold mine for managers who draft the tight end within the first two rounds”
In most fantasy leagues, Waller is being picked in the late second or early third round. Over the last couple of weeks, he has seen his average draft position rise above George Kittle, making him the No. 2 tight end in most drafts behind Kelce.
Considering that Waller is locked into a huge workload in Las Vegas, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he had another career year with the Raiders. And again, if he can replicate the numbers we saw in the final seven or eight games, Waller will be the highest-scoring tight end in fantasy football this season,
Be sure to make it a point to grab Waller anytime after the first 15 or so picks in your draft as he could easily be a league winner.
