There have been rumors swirling around that veteran quarterback Philip Rivers’ time with the Chargers could be up.
If that is true, and Rivers decides he still wants to play, where could he play?
One option that seems obvious is the Chicago Bears.
Mitch Trubisky is in over his head as a starting quarterback in the NFL. That’s been extremely clear, especially in 2019.
While Rivers is 38 years old and throws interceptions like they could be going out of style at any moment (he’s only thrown less than 10 interceptions just once in the last 13 seasons), he would be a massive upgrade for the Bears and would actually utitlize the skillsets of players like Allen Robinson, Tarik Cohen and others.
It’s something to keep an eye on this offseason. The Bears are paying Trubisky, who is in the final year of his rookie deal, a little more than $4 million. That would allow them to pay someone like Rivers without feeling like they are investing too much in the quarterback position (if there is such a thing).
Another player who makes a lot of sense for Chicago this offseason is Cam Newton if the Panthers decide to move on.
