Carson Wentz’s relationship with Indianapolis head coach Frank Reich has been talked about at Nausea, but it could be one former Colts legend that plays the biggest role in a potential trade.
According to Mike Kaye of NJ.com via Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star, the Colts head coach has reached out to Manning for advice on the team’s quarterback situation following Philip Rivers’ retirement.
As soon as quarterback Philip Rivers informed the Indianapolis Colts of his intention to retire, coach Frank Reich got to work, analyzing all of the quarterbacks the team believed could be available.
There is, perhaps, no sharper football mind than the one belonging to Colts legend Peyton Manning, which is why Reich doesn’t hesitate to reach out to his former pupil when he wants an opinion he can trust.
Reich’s relationship with Manning dates back to his time as the Colts offensive quality control coach (2008), then quarterbacks coach (2009-10), and wide receivers coach (2011) while Manning was still breaking NFL records.
“After Philip retired, I started going, ‘OK, here’s all the quarterbacks who could be out there,’” Reich told IndyStar. “And as we’re talking about who’s going to be our starting quarterback next year, yeah, I called Peyton and asked him his opinion on some of the guys.”
This news comes as reports have surfaced from Ian Rapoport, that state the Eagles have already started fielding calls from prospective teams on Wentz despite not planning the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
