Could Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte be in line for bigger role?

Will the injury-riddled Patriots lean more on rookie WR Kayshon Boutte?

The New England Patriots have struggled with consistent production at the wide receiver position. But could help be on the way?

Rookie wideout Kayshon Boutte was second in line in practice drills on Wednesday, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. That on its own doesn’t mean much, but you have to wonder if Boutte’s snaps will increase with all of the recent injuries at wide receiver for New England.

The team is banged up at the position with Devante Parker and Kendrick Bourne both going down with injuries in the Week 8 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Bourne is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Parker is in concussion protocol.

Boutte hasn’t been active since the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. He did not make any statistical contributions in the game.

New England has played their young talent a bit more over the past couple games. For example, wide receiver Demario Douglas has taken on a bigger role. That was evident against the Buffalo Bills a couple weeks ago, when he tallied four catches for 54 yards.

It remains to be seen how Boutte will fit into the wide receiver scheme. Nevertheless, the Patriots may need to switch things up in order to save their season.
