Could Cowboys QB Dak Prescott be an option for Raiders in 2025?

It is no secret that the quarterback situation in Las Vegas is less than ideal. The Raiders are hoping that Aidan O’Connell can take a big step in Year 2 and take over that job. If not, Gardner Minshew will be the bridge starter until they find another quarterback.

But what if the Raiders’ next franchise quarterback isn’t in the 2025 NFL Draft? What if they decide to look to free agency to find their next elite passer?

In a recent article by Vic Tafur of The Athletic, he answered several mailbag questions including the idea of Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys being an option for the Raiders in 2025. And to no one’s surprise, the answer was yes:

Why not? If the Raiders are a winning team this year that was held back by their quarterback, breaking the bank for Dak Prescott, a very good 31-year-old quarterback, may be the only real ticket available. Because it would be unlikely again that the Raiders would be able to trade up in the draft.

Prescott is coming off the best season of his career, finishing second in the MVP voting. The Cowboys have routinely had elite offenses with Prescott under center and his career record of 73-41 is highly impressive.

With Prescott playing on the final year of his contract and with the Cowboys having no way to franchise tag him after this season, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025. And if he does hit the open market, the Raiders would be foolish not to explore that option.

Quarterbacks like Prescott just don’t become available very often, and he could immediately give the Raiders elite quarterback play from Day 1. If Prescott does hit the market, expect the Raiders to show plenty of interest.
