Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin suffered a season-ending knee injury last December, putting his status for the start of the 2022 season in doubt.
That said, recent comments from a fellow Bucs pass-catcher might have Bucs fans hoping for a quicker return for the Pro Bowler than originally expected.
Appearing on the Pewter Report podcast, Bucs wide receiver Cyril Grayson Jr. was asked which of his teammates might surprise people this year.
“I think Chris is going to surprise people,” Grayson said. “I think he’s going to be back sooner than everybody thinks. I’ll say that.
“I’ve been seeing him sometimes,” Grayson continued. “I heard he ran 19 miles per hour the other day.”
Recovering from multiple torn knee ligaments can be a year-long process for many professional athletes, but considering Godwin’s ridiculous work ethic, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him beat those odds and complete his recovery sooner than expected.
Tampa Bay signed veteran Russell Gage to a hefty three-year deal in free agency to give them some insurance in case Godwin isn’t ready when the regular season begins, but his presence could turn into a valuable luxury as the team’s No. 3 receiver if Godwin is ready to roll Week 1.
