The matchup between Tulane and USC in the 2023 Cotton Bowl is a fascinating one. No one predicted it would happen before the season began. It’s also a weirdly wonderful combination of an off-the-radar program versus a USC program which was off the radar for the past several years of Clay Helton misery, but immediately returned to the spotlight in one season under Lincoln Riley.
The other thing which makes this Cotton Bowl a genuinely interesting game: A lot of points should be scored. This is not likely to be a dull game on January 2 in Arlington.

Tulane is the AAC and Group of Five champion, so Helwick has a lot of information and insight on the Green Wave.
In this clip, Helwick examines the Tulane defense and its matchup against the USC offense. He also explains how UCF — which lost to Tulane in the AAC Championship Game — was able to beat Tulane in the earlier matchup between the two teams this season. (They played twice and split the two meetings.)
