Cormac Ryan returning to Notre Dame for another season

The Irish are getting a key player back.

Cormac Ryan’s career-high 29 points against Alabama in the 2022 NCAA Tournament will live in Notre Dame lore forever. Equally iconic is the energy he brought brought while doing it. Now, Irish fans will get one more opportunity see what he can do for the program. That’s because Ryan announced on Instagram that he will come back to South Bend for the 2022-23 season:

In 60 games over two seasons with the Irish, Ryan, who began his collegiate career at Stanford, has averaged 9.5 points and 2.1 assists a game while shooting 42.2% from the field. Ryan began the 2021-22 season in the starting lineup, mostly came off the bench for a month and a half, then started every game the rest of the way.

This surely won’t silence critics that the Irish have too many guards and not enough forwards. Still, Ryan has earned the right to contribute more to the program. Plus, it will need his leadership if back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths are in order. He definitely showed it in March.
