Cooper Kupp gives update on ankle rehab, says things are ‘going really well’

Cooper Kupp shared an update on his ankle injury and trainers like where he’s at in his rehab

Cooper Kupp was one of the many players to miss extended time for the Rams this season, going down with an ankle injury in Week 10 against the Cardinals. Kupp underwent what’s called “tightrope” surgery on his ankle to repair the injury, causing him to miss the rest of the season.

Now two months removed, Kupp is feeling good about his rehab. The trainers feel the same way. He provided an update on his recovery during the team’s exit interviews Monday, and everything seems to be on track.

“The trainers, at least – I’ve never done this before – but the trainers all feel good about where we’re at, feel like we’re making good time on things,” he said. “I just want to be able to get to that place here where I can get back to training and doing the football stuff again that I love. Things seem to be going really well.”

Kupp didn’t need to have surgery, but he felt that would be the best option. He didn’t say it, but knowing the Rams were essentially out of playoff contention, it was smart to get the issue fixed with surgery rather than rushing back and hoping it’d heal on its own.

“The options are either don’t do anything or get it fixed,” he said. “At the end of the day, I think the best thing as a player seems to be that if you aren’t able to get it fixed that things can kind of linger, go on, you never really get fully back. I think that was the right decision for me. I don’t think I had any other option but to get it fixed and the great thing is guys have done really well with this procedure and come back feeling good so excited to be able to get to that place and be back to work.”

Kupp didn’t give an exact timetable for his return, but considering there was an outside chance he could return for the playoffs this season, he should be ready for OTAs and minicamp this spring. The next step is getting to a point where he can once again go through football drills and workouts, which he’s looking forward to.
