Cooper Kupp aiming for Week 7 return but ‘by no means is that guaranteed’

Sean McVay provided an update on Cooper Kupp’s timeline, saying Week 7 is an “ideal target” but not guaranteed

Cooper Kupp has been sidelined since injuring his ankle in Week 2, missing the last three and a half games. Adam Schefter reported last week that Kupp is targeting a return in Week 7 after the Rams’ bye but Sean McVay provided further clarity on the receiver’s timeline Monday.

McVay told reporters that Week 7 is “an ideal target” but he’s not setting it in stone that Kupp will be back for that game against the Raiders. He called it “always an optimistic target date,” so there’s obviously still a chance he could be back for that contest at home.

“That would be an ideal target, yes,” he said of Week 7. “Here’s what I would say, that is something that in an ideal world, yeah, he’s ready to go. He had some specific work that he was doing with Reggie [Scott] over the last couple days and we were planning on visiting with him but the Raiders [game] was always an optimistic target date based on a few weeks back that we had set, but by no means is that guaranteed.”

Kupp caught 18 passes in the first two games of the season and he still ranks second on the team in receptions despite only playing a game and a half. The Rams desperately need him back as soon as possible and ideally, that’ll be against the Raiders in Week 7.

At 1-4, Los Angeles can’t afford to lose many more games.
