McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC), a former UFC dual-champion, has a proposition ahead of his projected trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier in July. Although their highly anticipated fight won’t be for the lightweight title, McGregor wants a special title on the line under his name: the “McGregor Belt.”

It was an idea he mentioned in the UFC 196 pre-fight bews conference prior to his first contest with Nate Diaz, and McGregor posted a clip on his social media to remind everyone.

“I I feel it’s time to break out this baby for the next fight. I ask the UFC to please create The McGregor belt. I suggest rose gold and rubies. Think patek rare.”

Or yellow gold and emeralds possibly. Might be nice also. I’m open to design suggestions. Let’s link up @ufc #TheMcGregorBelt.”

McGregor took shots at former foe Diaz, who like Poirier, has split his two appearances with him. Diaz got to compete for the inaugural “BMF” title against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in November 2019, but McGregor thinks he should have been half of that equation.

“Isn’t that crazy! Who’s the real bad motherfucker anyway ? Went up two weight divisions on a weeks notice to fight him for that fight. No hesitation. Straight onto my jet. In thru the side door. Surprise, surprise.”

After Poirier stopped McGregor in their rematch at UFC 257 in January, he opted to face McGregor for a third time over competing for the lightweight title, which appears to be why McGregor is suggesting a fight with him is more prestigious than the UFC title. Instead, Michael Chandler will face Charles Oliveira for the vacant 155-pound strap in the main event of UFC 262 on May 15.
