Unfortunately, there still isn’t enough to go off of to determine who will be the day one starting quarterback even though Card had the better game.
It would have helped if both quarterbacks had a chance to play with equal offensive lines and against the entire starting defense, or at least the full set of starters as well as the key rotational players.
Even though we finally get to see them in game-like action, it still was a glorified practice.
Obviously, Card displayed more splash plays, leading to the possibility that he could have the edge, but with Casey Thompson given the opportunity to throw more passes in the game, as well as play with the team’s best offensive weapons, it almost feels like he’s being given every opportunity to win the job.
While this gives us plenty to see where the players are in their progressions in the new system, we still likely won’t know the starting quarterback until the opening weekend in September.
