The Washington Commanders selected Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes at No. 16 overall in the 2023 NFL draft.

Forbes is the second cornerback off the board after the Seattle Seahawks selected Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon at No. 5 overall. The Commanders surprisingly passed on Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez who many had projected inside the top 10.

The second-team All-American recorded 14 interceptions in three collegiate seasons, returning six for touchdowns.

The biggest knock on Forbes is his size. Although Forbes is 6-foot-1, he weighs just 166 pounds. Forbes ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds, is a three-year starter with elite college production at the highest level in college football.

The Commanders are back on the clock at No. 47 overall, and one would suspect help on the offensive line would be the priority.
