Commanders request permission to interview 49ers assistant GM Adam Peters

Adam Peters will have plenty of options, including remaining with the 49ers.

The Washington Commanders are shooting for the stars. Shortly after firing head coach Ron Rivera, the Commanders reportedly contacted the Detroit Lions to request permission to interview offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Washington’s advisory committee is conducting the coaching and general manager searches simultaneously and has requested permission to interview San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Peters is in his 21st NFL season and third as the 49ers assistant GM. While John Lynch receives most of the credit for San Francisco’s outstanding roster, it is Peters who is considered by many to be the principal architect of the franchise.

He’s been with the 49ers since 2017. Before that, he served nine years in Denver in various roles, working under John Elway.

He began his NFL career in 2003 with the Patriots, spending six seasons in New England’s scouting department.

Peters is a coveted GM candidate and has been in recent years. However, he may choose to stay in San Francisco as the 49ers could promote him to GM after they promoted Lynch to president of football operations.
